Day 22. Progress!
This week was really motivating since I was working on the DOM manipulation section and have gone through all the bits, which led me to working on the rock-paper-scissors UI. And it works! I did try to be cute and make buttons pictures of a rock and paper and scissors, but it was so ugly I just went with buttons.
I was really struggling there for a bit with tying it all together and reworking the code with event listeners and such, but it's all working now, and it was nice to be able to show it to a couple friends. When I was working on App Academy I was all like, "Oh I actually built this game and it works!" (and it was more complicated stuff too), but when they asked me to show something, I'd be like, "Eh it's all in terminal, it's not really that easy to get working." (those were not programmers)
I also moved along with Etch-a-Sketch, now I only need to figure out how to rebuild a new grid with user input and maybe play with different colors.
Google Homepage is a bit of a mess, while working on it I figured I don't understand CSS at all (really struggling with aligning items and flexbox). I need to find some tutorials to actually understand the flow of things on the document. When I'm doing the little exercises it's all set up and works fine, but when these items are on the page, I would do all the aligning and margins and justifying and paddings, and some of it won't work at all, and some would just do weird things.
I've been doing a bit better reading through things (since DOM is actually mostly new stuff, I can focus a little better) and followed a couple JS30 tutorials, so I'm feeling motivated. Hopefully I won't stumble too much later on (I looked at some implementations of Battleship and it just seems sooooo hard!).
This next month I'm staying in my hometown with not much to do and distract me, so I'm going to be trying to stay really consistent with my work-programming-gym routine.
